Coloplast and Prologis break ground on new Nordic distribution facility in Kungsbacka

Coloplast, a Danish medical device company specializing in intimate healthcare, has broken ground on a new Nordic distribution facility in Kungsbacka. The build-to-suit logistics facility is being developed by Prologis, with Kungsbacka Municipality joining Coloplast and Prologis to mark the start of construction in Fjärås.
The approximately 12,000 square metre facility is designed to meet medical device company standards, temperature-controlled logistics requirements and will support Coloplast’s distribution of healthcare products across the Nordics. Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
The development is located in Kungsbacka’s designated industrial and logistics area in Fjärås, directly adjacent to the E6 corridor – the main north–south route between Copenhagen and Oslo – and approximately 30 kilometres from the Port of Gothenburg. The location provides strong connectivity along Scandinavia’s west coast and access to the wider Gothenburg labour market, supporting long-term logistics operations in one of Sweden’s key distribution corridors.
For Kungsbacka Municipality, the project represents a further step in the continued development of the Fjärås logistics zone and strengthens the area’s role in supporting essential supply chains, including the distribution of healthcare products critical to the region and the Nordics.
“This groundbreaking is an important milestone for Fjärås,” said Lisa Andersson, chairman of Kungsbacka municipal board. “Projects like this strengthen Kungsbacka’s position as a place where companies can invest and operate for the long term, while supporting continued economic development in the region. We look forward to our continued cooperation with Coloplast and Prologis.”
Prologis is developing the facility with a focus on responsible construction and long-term performance. Alongside CO₂-reduced concrete, the building is designed to minimise energy demand through high insulation levels and increased natural light. Geothermal heating will provide efficient, low-carbon temperature control, supported by a building management system (BMS) that continuously monitors and adjusts key functions such as heating, ventilation, lighting and overall energy use—helping the facility run more efficiently, comfortably and cost-effectively over time. The project is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification.
“Breaking ground on this facility marks an important step in supporting Coloplast’s Nordic operations with a purpose-built, temperature-controlled logistics solution,” said Tony Johansson, Director, Head of Development Management Nordics at Prologis. “We are delivering a building that meets the demanding standards of medical device companies while embedding responsible construction and long-term performance from day one. The close cooperation with Coloplast and Kungsbacka Municipality has been central to reaching this milestone.”
Prologis has been active in Sweden since 2006 and continues to grow its presence in key logistics markets around Stockholm and Gothenburg, providing modern, energy-efficient facilities that support essential supply chains and local economic growth.
